Sequal Solutions:

First Dorset organisation awarded Social Enterprise Mark

July 2009

Sequal is the first organisation in Dorset to be awarded the prestigious Social Enterprise Mark. The Social Enterprise Mark means customers can easily see that Sequal is a social business, which reinvests its profits into activities that benefit the local community.

Sequal now delivers a range of services to the private, public and third sector, including:

  • Sequal Staffing and Recruitment;
  • Sequal Foundations, grounds and property maintenance, which offers the long-term unemployed training, mentoring and employment opportunities;
  • Sequal Childcare, children's day nurseries, which offer parents affordable childcare and support.
  • Sequal Training and Consultancy, specialist and bespoke training for third sector organisations.

Stephen Fraser, Director of Sequal, said: 'We're very proud to be the first organisation in Dorset with the Social Enterprise Mark. It enables us to show people that we are truly motivated by our social objectives. Social enterprise is a different way of doing business, and is especially relevant at a time when people increasingly want to use companies that put their profits back into the community, rather than into the pockets of shareholders.'

May 2009

Five students from the School of Management have won an award from Sequal Solutions in a University of Southampton business competition.

Challenged to come up with an innovative commercial idea - which could be developed into a potential business opportunity for Sequal Solutions - the winning team devised a 'one stop shop' to supply and fit low-cost energy-saving devices for householders. Heather Shaw, Emily Gollop, Caroline Amos, Sabina Jane Sheehan and Carly Malling were presented with a trophy by Sequal Solutions and shared the £250 top prize.

Two other teams also received awards and cheques.
Carly Manning, who is studying BSc Management with Entrepreneurship, said: 'Presenting to the judges was a bit daunting but it all went well. It was good to work on a real-life project instead of just learning about them in class and we all got a lot out of the experience.'Martin Hancock, Chief Executive of Sequal Solutions, said: 'We were very impressed with the students' ideas and will definitely explore some of them further. This competition has been very useful both for the company and the young people taking part who have learned how to prepare a case and pitch their ideas.'

Graham Manville, Senior Fellow in Strategy at the School of Management, added: 'This was a valuable opportunity for students to put their knowledge into practice. They enjoyed the challenge and learned a great deal about business in the real world.'
